Joey Collins For Sheriff 2014

WE ARE, Floyd County!

 A little about me

Hello, my name is Joey Collins. I am 43 years old. I am a single father of three awesome girls and one amazing son. I come from a large Christian family with six kids, four boys and two girls. My parents, Ervin Jr & Helen Collins were gospel singers, so we grew up in church. Traveling to various churches was a big part of our lives as children, Our home was at McDowell, Ky where my Papaw was the mail delivery man back in the day when they used horse and buggy to get around, it was called Bristle Buck and later became McDowell. My dad was a coal miner and later became a truck driver for R&S Body Company. My mother was a stay at home mom who loved her children more than life. Sadly, both my parents died unexpected deaths.

I am the owner of High Voltage Electronics, a small Computer repair business that I operate out of my home. I am engaged to the woman of my dreams, Maxine Goble. We live a humble life here in Hueysville, Ky. My hobbies are sporting events with my kids and working on and restoring old cars.

Some of you might remember me from a horrible electrical accident that happen at Fletcher & Halls dealership located in Pikeville. On that fateful day, in May of 1997, I lost a great friend and almost lost my life. Both of us were electrocuted when our boom truck came in to contact with an over head power line. My employer at the time was Uni-Sign Corp. I have faced many up and down battles in the past 17 years. I have claimed victory in them all. I give all thanks to my Heavenly Father, for never leaving me, nor forsaking me. I am in constant search of ways to better myself. Hopefully, I can look back and enjoy the accomplishments that I have been blessed with.

As my children grow older, I am reminded of all the dangers we face as citizens of Floyd County. Drugs have overtaken the area. Cemeteries are crowded with kids that should be going to college. There seems to be no justice for these families. Crimes of theft and murder are happening at an alarming rate. Many mothers are raising children without support from dead beat fathers. This has been overlooked for far too long. Grandparents are raising their grandchildren because the parents are to strung out on drugs to care for them. (Thank God for Grandparents).

Abuse, whether it is drug or physical, in most homes is rampant. Some people just can't get the help they seek, when a crime has taken place against them. There is also the animal cruelty situation. Many times I have seen people dumping animals out along the highways. Some animals are tied to chains and they never get fed or watered. Many times, I have called in complaints that never got answered. This is unacceptable and cannot go on any longer. These are some of the reasons, I am running for Sheriff of Floyd County, Kentucky. With your help and support, we can bring a better future to our families and our county.

My experience as leader shows in my business and with my children. I have also volunteered help in bringing justice in various cases. I will bring organizations together in unity to work toward the same goals. Look at the past eight year's.There has been no unity between the sheriff office and other law enforcement agencies. Why have we as citizens stood by and allowed this to happen? I volunteer my time because I cannot tolerate crime. I have also devoted time as a volunteer Computer technician in the Drug Court program. The idea is to teach the Drug Court candidates a new skill in computers, in hopes that they will continue the education and become a productive member of society. This program was one of my ideas and a service I offered to this County. Although it has not been fully implemented, I am still believing for great results when this program is in full swing.

My mother was very avid in teaching us children about the terrible effects of drugs. I was seven years old when I attended my first drug seminar. I am thankful for the values my parents instilled in me. Drugs are a lot worse now than when I was a child. Somewhere along the line, pills started being abused, heavily. Children learn from what they see and hear at home, or from friends. Experimenting begins and so does addiction, then you have youngsters hitting adulthood with drug dependency.

I would like to put a program in place that all law enforcement agencies can participate in, one that will teach children and young adults about the horrors of drug abuse. With all of this said, I ask for your confidence and for your vote! Let's bring a better future to our county. I have to give this a chance, because I love the people of this area. It is time to change how the system has always been. We don't need anyone to choose our next Sheriff for us. It seems everytime one is stepping down, there is one hand picked to take his place. This should not be. WE have a choice. OUR vote can stop this from happening again. This method has always resulted in the same outcome. Drugs are still running rampant and crime levels have risen, to fund this habit. We, as Floyd County citizens, deserve better than what we have been handed. We should never have to wonder or worry if a deputy will show up. I have waited for hours after calling and then given up. I would then call KSP and they would be there in minutes. We deserve better, folks. Our children deserve better.

IN SUMMARY

As your Sheriff I WILL :

>ENFORCE THE LAWS AGAINST REPEAT OFFENDERS.

>ENFORCE THE LAWS AGAINST CHILD ABUSE.

>ENFORCE THE LAWS ON CHILD SUPPORT.

>ENFORCE THE LAWS AGAINST ANIMAL ABUSE.

>FASTER RESPONSE TIMES FROM OUR SHERIFFS OFFICE.

Too many people have lost their lives or been seriously injured because the Sheriff Deputies are few and hard to find. There should be more on duty police officers to respond to the 911 calls coming in, plus this war on gun rights is UNCONSTITUTIONAL, Any Sheriff in his right mind would rather have law abiding Citizens be able to protect their self at the same time they are calling 911, the fact is, the police might not make it there in time to save you.

My skills of managing and bringing folks together and my experience with volunteering with law enforcement is key to this election. If you feel I am not qualified for this job, then please ask the candidate you plan to vote for what his/hers goals are as Sheriff. No matter what party you stand with, it's time we stand united and win this election together. Thank you for your time and I pray that who ever wins will put the peoples Constitutional rights before politics.

I desire to make my friends and neighbors proud and most importantly my County. If I am what you are looking for please kindly make a donation to this campaign. When folks come together, a little here and there can add up to a lot. My mailing address is Joey Collins P.O. Box 54 Garrett, Ky 41630
